Kalbėdamas apie Antrojo pasaulinio karo priežastis, Rusijos diplomatas teigė, kad Lenkija praėjusio amžiaus ketvirtajame dešimtmetyje daug kartų blokavo koalicijos prieš hitlerinę Vokietiją sudarymą, tad iš dalies jai tenka atsakomybė už jo pradžią.

Responsibility for MH17 plane crash

2014-07-29
Malaysia has stated for the first time that it believes the Ukrainian government ought to bear responsibility for the crash of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, according to a report from Singaporean newspaper Lianhe Zaobao.

Malaysian transport minister Liow Tiong Lai was quoted by the paper as saying that the Ukrainian government needs to take responsibility for the disaster cause it was Ukrainian air traffic controllers who permitted MH17 to fly over the country's airspace when it was shot down on July 17 en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, killing all 283 passengers and 15 crew on board.

Ukraine's air traffic controllers did not notify MH17 that it was not permitted to fly in the region, Liow said, adding that the Ukrainian government had a responsibility to tell the Boeing 777-200ER airliner if it was in any danger.

Terence Tao solved Erdős discrepancy problem

A mathematical puzzle that resisted solution for 80 years — including computerized attempts to crack it — seems to have yielded to a single mathematician.

Terence Tao,
a mathematician at the University of California, Los Angeles, and a winner of the Fields Medal in 2006, submitted a paper1 to the arXiv preprint server on 17 September that claims to prove a number theory conjecture posed by mathematician Paul Erdős in the 1930s.

Tao’s proof comes after years of attempts to solve the problem by hand and computer.

In February of 2014, researchers presented a computer proof for a special case of the conjecture. They showed that it is always possible to find a sum that is bigger than 2 but failed to prove that there is always a sum bigger than 3. Tao’s proof demonstrates that there is always a sum bigger than any finite number.

Mosaic

mosaic (n.)
c. 1400, from Old French mosaicq "mosaic work," from Italian mosaico, from Medieval Latin musaicum "mosaic work, work of the Muses," noun use of neuter of musaicus "of the Muses," from Latin Musa (see muse). Medieval mosaics were often dedicated to the Muses. The word formed in Medieval Latin as though from Greek, but the (late) Greek word for "mosaic work" was mouseion (Klein says this sense was borrowed from Latin). Figurative use is from 1640s. As an adjective in English from 1580s. Related: Mosaicist.

Mosaic (adj.)
"pertaining to Moses," 1660s (earlier Mosaical, 1560s), from Modern Latin Mosaicus, from Moses.

The Masoretes (Hebrewבעלי המסורהba'alei hamasorah) were groups of Jewish scribe-scholars who worked between the 6th and 10th centuries CE,[1]based primarily in present-day Israel in the cities of Tiberias and Jerusalem, as well as in Iraq (Babylonia). Each group compiled a system of pronunciation and grammatical guides in the form of diacritical notes on the external form of the biblical text in an attempt to standardize the pronunciation, paragraph and verse divisions and cantillation of the Jewish Bible, the Tanakh, for the worldwide Jewish community.
The ben Asher family of Masoretes was largely responsible for the preservation and production of the Masoretic Text, although an alternate Masoretic text of the ben Naphtali Masoretes, which differs slightly from the ben Asher text, existed. The halakhic authority Maimonides endorsed the ben Asher as superior, although the Egyptian Jewish scholar, Saadya Gaon al-Fayyumi, had preferred the ben Naphtali system. The ben Asher family and the majority of the Masoretes appear to have been Karaites.[2] However, Geoffrey Khan believes that the ben Asher family was probably not Karaite.[3]

think (v.)
Old English þencan "imagine, conceive in the mind; consider, meditate, remember; intend, wish, desire" (past tense þohte, past participle geþoht), probably originally "cause to appear to oneself," from Proto-Germanic *thankjan (cognates: Old Frisian thinka, Old Saxon thenkian, Old High German denchen, German denken, Old Norse þekkja, Gothic þagkjan).

Old English þencan is the causative form of the distinct Old English verb þyncan "to seem, to appear" (past tense þuhte, past participle geþuht), from Proto-Germanic *thunkjan(cognates: German dünkendäuchte). Both are from PIE *tong- "to think, feel" which also is the root of thought and thank.

The two Old English words converged in Middle English and þyncan "to seem" was absorbed, except for its preservation in archaic methinks "it seems to me." As a noun, "act of prolonged thinking," from 1834. The figurative thinking cap is attested from 1839.

    Sūrijos sūriai

There are numerous different kinds of Syrian cheese. Some of the most common are:
    • Ackawi , a white cheese with complex flavor. Primarily used as a table cheese. Also spelled Akawi and Akawieh.
    • Baladi , soft-white, smooth, creamy cheese has a mild flavor. The cheese tastes delicious spread on fresh bread or crackers. It is eaten for breakfast or snacks.
    • Charkassiye, a soft, fresh cheese
    • Jibneh Arabieh (Arabic for: Arab Cheese), is a simple cheese found all over the Middle East. It is particularly popular in Egypt and Arab countries of the Persian Gulf. The cheese has an open texture and a mild taste. The heritage of the product started with Bedouins, using goat or sheep milk, however current practice is to use cow's milk to make the cheese. Jibneh Arabieh is used for cooking, or simply as a table cheese.
    • Jibne Khadra Arabic for green cheese, is a white hard cheese with a pronounced salty taste, often boiled before eating
    • Kenafa , is an unsalted, very fresh, soft cheese that melts easily and freely. It is used to make the popular "cheesecake", like dessert that is sometimes called Kenafa by people in the Middle East. It can also be used as a base for other sweet cheese desserts. It is sold frozen because there is no salt in it and is available in both retail and bulk packages.
    • Majdoule, a salty white cheese made up of thick strands of cheese braided together (hence the name)
    • Shelal, a salty white cheese made up of strands of cheese woven together
    • Surke, sorke or shanklish, a mature cheese made with spices and generally presented as balls of cheese covered in za'tar orchile powder; most often eaten as a starter dish with tomato, oil and sometimes onion
    • Turkomani, a soft porous cheese with a delicate flavour.

Polemika [gr. polemikos – karingas, priešiškas] - viešas ginčas kuriuo nors klausimu argumentuojant.

    polemic (adj.)
1640s, from French polémique (from Middle French polemique) "disputatious, controversial," or directly from Greek polemikos "of war, warlike, belligerent; skilled in war, fit for service; like an enemy, stirring up hostility," from polemos "war," of unknown origin. Related: Polemical (1630s).

    Ne...

    In Greek mythology, Polemos (Πόλεμος;
"war") was a divine personification or embodiment of war.[1] No cult practices or myths are known for him, and as an abstract representation he figures mainly in allegory and philosophical discourse.[2] His Roman counterpart was Polemus/Bellum.

Polemus is a spider genus of the Salticidae family (jumping spiders).
