Lituus

Lituus is a spiral described by the polar equation r == 1/Sqrt[θ].

As θ approachs infinity, the curve approaches the origin.

The lituus is an Archimedean spiral with n=-2.

The lituus is the locus of the point moving such that the area of a circular sector remains constant.

The inverse of Lituus with respect to the center is the parabolic spiral.

The lituus spiral is a recurring shape in art called Volute.

The curve was named by Roger Cotes in a collection of papers entitled Harmonia Mensurarum (1722), which was published six years after his death.

Visų šventųjų diena skirta paminėti žmonėms, po mirties paskelbtiems šventaisiais. Tikima, kad šventieji padeda žmonėms, jei jiems meldžiamasi. Lapkričio 1-ąją liturgine šventųjų atminimo švente paskelbė popiežius Bonifacas IV VII a. pradžioje.

Vaticinia — «место гаданий».

In this originally uninhabited area (the ager vaticanus) on the opposite side of the Tiber from the city of Rome, Agrippina the Elder (14 BC – 18 October AD 33) drained the hill and environs and built her gardens in the early 1st century AD. Emperor Caligula (31 August AD 12–24 January AD 41; r. 37–41) started construction of a circus (AD 40) that was later completed by Nero, the Circus Gaii et Neronis, usually called, simply, the Circus of Nero.

The Vatican obelisk was originally taken by Caligula from Heliopolis, Egypt to decorate the spina of his circus and is thus its last visible remnant. This area became the site of martyrdom of many Christians after the Great Fire of Rome in AD 64. Ancient tradition holds that it was in this circus that Saint Peter was crucified upside-down.

Opposite the circus was a cemetery separated by the Via Cornelia. Funeral monuments and mausoleums and small tombs as well as altars to pagan gods of all kinds of polytheistic religions were constructed lasting until before the construction of the Constantinian Basilica of St. Peter's in the first half of the 4th century.

The territory of the Borgo during the Roman age was part of the fourteenth Regio, Transtiberim, and was named Ager Vaticanus, after the auguries (vaticinii), which were taken there by the Etruscan Augures.

Vatikanas.

The word derives from the Latin vates, which means "tellers of the future."

Early Roman king Numa Pompilius shown as Augur priest holding (Lituus) and standing before an altar at which he is about to sacrifice a goat as depicted on Pomponius Molo coin (97 BC).

The lituus was a crooked wand (similar in shape to the top part of a crosier) used as a cult instrument in ancient Roman religion by augurs to mark out a ritual space in the sky (a templum). The passage of birds through this templum indicated divine favor or disfavor for a given undertaking.

THE LITAI (or Litae) were the spirits (daimones) of prayer, ministers and daughters of Zeus.

They appear in Homer's Iliad in Book 9 as the lame and wrinkled daughters of Zeus (no mother named and no number given) who follow after Zeus' exiled daughter Até ('Folly') as healers but who cannot keep up with the fast-running Até.

They bring great advantage to those who venerate them; but if someone dishonors them, then they go to Zeus and ask that Até be sent against that person.

Celtic goddess.

... Letavis is an earth goddess or divinisation of the landscape.

"Letavia" may be derived from "Litavis", so the place-name would mean "Land of Litavis".

The lituus was also used as a symbol of office for the college of the augurs to mark them out as a priestly group, similar wands were also used by the priests and pharaohs in ancient Egypt and are associated with some deities.

Šitą lituus daug kas rankoj tebelaiko.

Liturgija.

The word lituus originally meant a curved augural staff (cp. "crozier") or a curved war-trumpet in the ancient Latin language.

If not in ancient.

Senieji augurai įaugindavo-inauguruodavo į pareigas kaip augalą įsodina; dabartiniai augurai irgi taip daro.

Lituites gives its name to the term "lituiticone" which refers to a shell that is coiled in the early growth stage and later becomes uncoiled.

The ancient lituus was an old Etruscan high-pitched brass instrument, which was bent at the end, similar to the Gallic carnyx. It was later used by the Romans, especially for processional music and as a signalling horn in the army. In 17th century Germany a variant of the bent ancient lituus was still used as a signalling horn by nightwatchmen.

The mediaeval lituus was a different brass instrument than the ancient Etruscan instrument, described by Kürzinger (1763) as a variant of the early trumpet or horn, i.e. a later development of the ancient Roman tuba.

One of the last compositions orchestrated for the mediaeval lituus was Bach's motet O Jesu Christ, meins Lebens Licht (BWV 118).

Scientists from Edinburgh University tried to recreate the lituus in May 2009, when the instrument had been out of use for 300 years.

Gal ir ne out of use.

Laikas keičia.

Ko nepakeičia, nugludina.
