A huge container ship that has been wedged in the Suez Canal since Tuesday has finally been freed from the shoreline.

However, it is not clear yet when full traffic in the canal can resume.

The blockage has been the source of much worry and frustration for the global shipping industry.

We take a look at the key numbers that have been involved in the operation.

The numbers are big

The Ever Given is 400m-long (1,312ft) and weighs 200,000 tonnes, with a maximum capacity of 20,000 containers. It is currently carrying 18,300 containers.

Wiki:
The 2021 Suez Canal obstruction refers to the incident when Ever Given, a Golden-class container shipran aground in the Suez Canal on 23 March 2021.[2][3] The 400-metre-long (1,300 ft) vessel had been buffeted by a sandstorm and strong winds of up to 40 knots (74 km/h; 46 mph), knocking it off course,[4] though authorities stated this was "not the main reason" for the grounding, and that "there may have been technical or human errors" as well. The ship ran aground on one of the canal's banks, obstructing the canal and preventing other vessels from passing through.[5] The obstruction was south of the section of the canal that has two channels, so there was no way for other ships to bypass Ever Given.[6]

Ever Given[note 1] is a Golden-class container ship, one of the largest container ships in the world. The ship is owned by Shoei Kisen Kaisha (a shipowning and leasing subsidiary of the large Japanese shipbuilding company Imabari Shipbuilding), and is time chartered and operated by container transportation and shipping company Evergreen Marine headquartered in Luzhu District, Taoyuan City, Taiwan.[6] Ever Given is registered in Panama, and its technical management is the responsibility of the German ship management company Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM).[7]

On 23 March 2021, while traveling from Tanjung PelepasMalaysia[8] to RotterdamNetherlands, the ship ran aground in the Suez Canalblocking it. It remained in place for six days, before salvage crews were able to free it on the 29th of March.
