Dwars.

dwars (comparative dwarser; superlative het dwarst, het dwarste)

1. at right angles to the other axis, crosswise;
2. (nautical) at right angles to the length of a ship;
3. slantwise, askew.

Nuo IV a. gyvavo Romos popiežiaus dvaras (Curia Romana).

Curia Romana.

Plėtros galimybės susilygino tik XV a. antroje pusėje. Nuo tada bažnytiniai dvarai nesiskyrė nuo pasaulietinių.

Juose dirbo bažnytiniai valstiečiai.

Baudžiauninkai, o ne valstiečiai, kaip tai neatrodytų krikščioniška.

Klaipėdos krašte baudžiavos pradžia – XIII a., kai kryžiuočiai baudžiauninkais pavertė kuršius ir lietuvius.

Chorezmas

Chorezmis (Mohammad ebne Mūsā Khwārazmī, pers. محمد بن موسی خوارزمی, g. 780 m. m. Chorezme, dabartinėje Chyvoje – m. 850 m. Bagdade) – uzbekų kilmės arabų matematikas ir astronomas.

Didžiąją dalį gyvenimo praleido dirbdamas Bagdade.

Išleido veikalą „Knyga apie atstatymą ir priešpastatymą“, kuris laikomas pirmuoju algebros vadovėliu, sudarė veiksmų dešimtainėje pozicinėje sistemoje taisykles.

Chorezmis laikomas algebros, kaip atskiros mokslo šakos, pradininku. Algoritmas, viena iš pagrindinių matematikos sąvokų, pavadinta lotynizuotu Chorezmo vardu „Algorithmi”.

Algoritmas ir arithmos.

From O.Fr. algorisme "the Arabic numeral system".

Al-Khwarizmi.

algebra (n.)
1550s, from M.L. algebra, from Arabic al jebr "reunion of broken parts," as in computation, used 9c. by Baghdad mathematician Abu Ja'far Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi as the title of his famous treatise on equations ("Kitab al-Jabr w'al-Muqabala" "Rules of Reintegration and Reduction"), which also introduced Arabic numerals to the West. The accent shifted 17c. from second syllable to first. The word was used in English 15c.-16c. to mean "bone-setting," probably from Arab medical men in Spain.

algorithm (n.)
1690s, from Fr. algorithme, refashioned (under mistaken connection with Gk. arithmos "number") from O.Fr. algorisme "the Arabic numeral system" (13c.), from M.L. algorismus, a mangled transliteration of Arabic al-Khwarizmi "native of Khwarazm," surname of the mathematician whose works introduced sophisticated mathematics to the West (see algebra). The earlier form in Middle English was algorism (early 13c.), from Old French.

The Arab geographer Yaqut al-Hamawi in his Muʿǧam al-buldan wrote that the name was a compound (in Persian) of khwar (خوار), and razm (رزم), referring to the abundance of cooked fish as a main diet of the peoples of this area.

Charizma ir Χορασμία.

The English term charisma is from the Greek χάρισμα khárisma, which means "favor freely given" or "gift of grace."

charisma (n.)
"gift of leadership, power of authority," c.1930, from German, used in this sense by Max Weber (1864-1920) in "Wirtschaft u. Gesellschaft" (1922), from Gk. kharisma "favor, divine gift," from kharizesthai "to show favor to," from kharis "grace, beauty, kindness" (Charis was the name of one of the three attendants of Aphrodite) related to khairein "to rejoice at," from PIE root *gher- "to desire, like" (see hortatory). More mundane sense of "personal charm" recorded by 1959.

Earlier, the word had been used in English with a sense of "grace, talent from God" (1875), directly from Latinized Greek; and in the form charism (pl. charismata) it is attested in English from 1640s. Middle English, meanwhile, had karisme "spiritual gift, divine grace" (c.1500).

Charis or Haris is a name derived from Greek Χάρις meaning grace, kindness.

Algol

Algol
Beta Persei, variable star in the constellation Perseus, late 14c., lit. "the Demon," from Arabic al-ghul "the demon" (see ghoul). It corresponds, in modern representations of the constellation, to the gorgon's head Perseus is holding, but it probably was so called because it visibly varies in brightness every three days, which sets it apart from other bright stars. The computer language (1959) is a contraction of algo(rithmic) l(anguage); see algorithm.

ghoul (n.)
1786, in the English translation of Beckford's "Vathek," from Arabic ghul, an evil spirit that robs graves and feeds on corpses, from ghala "he seized."

algorithm (n.)

Of Arabic al-Khwarizmi "native of Khwarazm".

The Hebrews knew Algol as Rosh ha Satan, Satan's Head, English writer on globes John Chilmead (circa 1639)'s Rosch hassatan, the Divels head; but also as Lilith, Adam's legendary first wife**, the nocturnal vampyre from the lower world that reappeared in the demonology of the Middle Ages as the witch Lilis, one of the characters in Goethe's Walpurgis Nacht.

South Atlantic Flash

The Vela Incident (sometimes referred to as the South Atlantic Flash) was an unidentified "double flash" of light that was detected by an American Vela Hotel satellite on September 22, 1979 near the Prince Edward (ne šis, bet irgi Duke of Kent)Islands or Antarctica. There is uncertainty as to the true nature of the incident though it is widely believed to have been the result of a nuclear detonation.

The most common theory among those who believe that the flash was of nuclear origins was that it the result of an Israeli nuclear test. The topic remains highly disputed today.

Israel is believed to have begun full scale production of nuclear weapons following the 1967 Six-Day War, although it may have had bomb parts earlier.

Israel is widely believed to possess nuclear weapons and to be the sixth country in the world to develop them. It is one of four nuclear-armed countries not recognized as a Nuclear Weapons State by the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), the others being India, Pakistan and North Korea. Israel maintains a policy known as "nuclear ambiguity" (also known as "nuclear opacity"). Israel has never officially admitted to having nuclear weapons, instead repeating over the years that it would not be the first country to "introduce" nuclear weapons to the Middle East, leaving ambiguity as to whether it means it will not create, will not disclose, will not make first use of the weapons or possibly some other interpretation of the phrase. The "not be the first" formulation goes back to before March 11, 1965, when a cable from the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv to Washington noted "The Government of Israel has reaffirmed that Israel will not be the first to introduce nuclear weapons into the Arab-Israel area."

Israel started investigating the nuclear field soon after its founding in 1948 and with French support secretly began building a nuclear reactor and reprocessing plant in the late 1950s.

Nuclear fuel reprocessing is performed routinely in Europe, Russia and Japan.

Reprocessing has been politically controversial because of the potential to contribute to nuclear proliferation, the potential vulnerability to nuclear terrorism.
