German Social Democrat leader Martin Schulz 

has backed Emmanuel Macron’s plans for a common eurozone budget for funding investments, highlighting deep division in Berlin over how to help the French president-elect revive his country’s economy.

“If the euro group states are to tackle things together, joint budget financing would be sensible,” Mr Schulz told Die Zeit newspaper. “We have today a single EU budget but no budget in the eurozone.”
